Call for papers for 2022 #ISOJ Journal now open with special edition on AI and the news

Researchers are invited to submit extended abstracts for the 2022 edition of the #ISOJ Journal,  the peer-reviewed official research publication of the International Symposium on Online Journalism. It will be a special issue of the #ISOJ Journal, focusing on implications associated with artificial intelligence and its growing interconnection with news and journalism.

Similar to previous occasions when the journal was focused on a specific topic, this journal will have a guest editor, Dr. Seth C. Lewis, professor and Shirley Papé Chair in Emerging Media in the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon.

“This is an exciting moment for the study of AI and news,” Lewis said. “There is obviously a lot of hype and confusion when it comes to the nature and impact of artificial intelligence, but it’s also apparent that we’re beginning to see the effects of AI — for better and for worse, in ways certain and uncertain — more readily playing out across many industries and in more and more aspects of our everyday lives. And that applies to the changing nature of news as well. There’s so much we have yet to learn.”

All manuscripts submitted to the call for papers will be subject to a blind-review process. After being selected for publication, authors of the winning papers will present their research at the the 22nd International Symposium on Online Journalism in April 2022 (the exact dates will be announced soon).

“We are excited that we are now accepting extended abstracts for ISOJ 2022,” said ISOJ research chair Amy Schmitz Weiss. “With Seth Lewis as guest editor, we are so excited to have his expertise and leadership on this issue. The special theme of AI and News is so relevant and timely for all aspects of online journalism today all around the world.”

The deadline to submit abstracts is Sept. 19, 2021 (by 10 pm PT).  To view the complete call for papers and submission requirements, visit isoj.org/research.
