As the Miami Herald’s editorial page editor since 2013, Nancy Ancrum is committed to making the Herald’s opinion pages, both print and digital, as accessible as possible to its readers and writers.
She presents a wide range of views — expressed civilly, of course — so that an ever-increasing number of readers see themselves reflected, rather than among the missing. To that end, the Herald’s opinion section has introduced three well-read weekly newsletters targeting, among others, conservatives and Hispanics; assembled a rotating roster of conservative columnists; and staged “Speaking of Miami,” a livestream interview initiative giving voice to a broad range of community members, from elected officials to victims of violence.
Nancy leads a staff of dynamic editorial board members who know the community well and are always curious to learn more to better inform the opinions the board presents on behalf of community members’ best interests.
Nancy is steeped in journalism, its principles and its practices. She is on the board of the News Leaders Association and served as a Pulitzer Prize juror in 2021 and 2022, a particular honor. She considers her husband, George Fishman, her most demanding editor.
A native New Yorker, Nancy is a graduate of New York University, with a degree in journalism. She began her career at the Baltimore Evening Sun before moving to USA Today, where she worked in the Features section, editing way too many stories about Michael Jackson.
