Lucero Ponce

Ponce is a speaker at the 25th ISOJ, happening from April 12 – 13, 2024, both online and in person at the University of Texas at Austin.
Lucero Ponce is a junior at the School of Journalism and Media in the Moody College of Communication. Currently, she serves as the editor in chief of The Daily Texan, UT Austin’s student-run newspaper, and leads the editorial board in holding the University accountable. Prior to becoming editor in chief, Lucero was the director of Texan en Español in 2023. During that time, Lucero led the newspaper’s first translation department, making breaking news more accessible to the Spanish-speaking community by producing 100 translations in one semester. Lucero has also worked for the opinion department as a columnist and associate editor. In the spring of 2023, Lucero worked as a reporting fellow for Community Impact, where she wrote about local nonprofits in the Southwest Austin area. She currently writes about the Texas foster care system for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. After graduating in May 2025, Lucero plans to pursue a career in investigative journalism.
