Prior to founding Status, Oliver was CNN’s senior media reporter. At CNN, he authored the acclaimed “Reliable Sources” newsletter and reported for CNN across both television and digital platforms.

Oliver’s reporting focuses on issues related to the news media, technology platforms, the entertainment industry and more. Oliver’s nightly newsletter examines the Fourth Estate, Hollywood, and Silicon Valley with hard-hitting reporting and uncompromising analysis.

Oliver regularly breaks stories on his beat, and is one of the leading national reporters covering media. In 2022, Mediaite named Oliver as one of the most influential journalists in the news industry. In 2017, Oliver was awarded the prestigious SABEW award for media reporting.

Prior to joining CNN, Oliver was the politics editor for Business Insider where he covered the 2016 presidential election and oversaw a team of reporters. He was previously deputy managing editor of TheBlaze.

A first-generation Persian-American, Oliver was born in Washington State. He graduated with a degree in political science from the University of California, Merced. Oliver currently resides in New York City.
