Head of Product & AI Studio, American Journalism Project; board chairwoman, News Product Alliance

Upasna is a cross-sector technology leader, currently the Head of Product & AI Studio at the American Journalism Project. Before joining AJP, she was Partner of Strategy & Innovation at The Texas Tribune, where she developed the organization’s local expansion strategy to support new local newsrooms across Texas. Before that, she spent six years at CNN as a senior product manager, where her team built the core platform technology powering CNN’s global digital products.

Across her 18+ year career in tech, Upasna has delivered enterprise-scale solutions for organizations including Ford Motor Company, Valvoline, Mars Corporation, PCMag, Mashable, and Kimberly-Clark. She currently serves as Chairwoman of the News Product Alliance, Co-Chair of the Innovation Council at The Texas Tribune, and works with early-stage startups as an angel investor and advisor. She lives in Austin, Texas with her family.
