Since 1999, ISOJ has attracted journalists, media executives and scholars from around the world to a unique conference that mixes top leaders of the news industry and academics who present cutting-edge research on the field of digital journalism. “We are preparing a very strong program this year, focusing on a variety of topics,” said professor Rosental Calmon Alves, founder and organizer of ISOJ. “The program will start with sessions dedicated to strategies media companies are, or should be, adopting to face the advanced stage of the digital revolution, but then we will move to topics such as the impact of social media on journalism, the use of responsive design by news sites, the challenges and opportunities created by the widespread use of mobile devices and the importance of data-visualization on online journalism.”

ISOJ is a program of the Knight Chair in Journalism and UNESCO Chair in Communication, and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the School of Journalism, in the College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Since 1999, the ISOJ website archives a one-of-a-kind repository of the evolution of digital journalism in the U.S. and around the world through videos, transcripts and other materials from all the previous symposia.

Thanks to the support of sponsors such as the Knight Foundation, the Dallas Morning News, the Scripps Howard Foundation and the University of Texas at Austin, it is possible to keep the cost of registration very low, compared with similar conferences. Students and faculty members pay a discounted rate of $30 and the general admission registration fee costs just $80. This includes access to all ISOJ sessions, the print program of the event, and breakfast, lunch and snacks on both days.

ISOJ will be at the same venue as last year: the auditorium of the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin Campus, at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Congress Avenue. The auditorium is located in the Smith Building, just across from the museum’s main entrance.
