Welcome to ISOJ.org! Explore the evolution of online journalism in the U.S. and the world since 1999

The International Symposium on Online Journalism is launching it’s new site, a unique repository of testimonials on the evolution of journalism in the United States and the world that includes all the content presented at ISOJ since 1999: transcripts, videos, slides and research papers.

The new site, with contemporary design and architecture, is now available at isoj.org, a new URL that replaces http://online.journalism.utexas.edu, which we’ve used for more than a decade.

The new site will provide up-to-date information about the preparations for the 18th ISOJ, which will be held on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin on April 21-22, 2017. However, the site is still under construction as we continue to transfer the archive from the old site year-by-year, all the way back to the inaugural ISOJ in 1999. Older materials may still be referred to the old site for a few weeks.

On the new site, we will be posting stories about the preparations of ISOJ 2017. Please also check our Facebook page and new Twitter account @ISOJ2017 for updates on newly published materials.

The new look and interactivity offered by isoj.org reflect all the strides online publishing has made in the past two decades.

Thanks to generous support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at UT Austin was able to work with digital media studio Seven Mile Media to create the new site. In the spirit of the “new,” we are also debuting a fresh logo created by Spanish designer Oscar Gomez, who also created the previous logo.

“We are thrilled to have this new website up and running and we are grateful to Knight Foundation for its support, and to the excellent work of Nick Harbaugh and Lauren Malkani from Seven Miles Media, and our distinguished alumnus Oscar Gomez,” said professor Rosental Alves, who founded ISOJ in 1999 and stills organizes the conference. “We are also grateful to the Knight Center’s team who has worked hard in the last weeks to make this site possible, including Kathleen Majorsky, Teresa Mioli and Jake Henson.”

To coincide with the launch, registration for ISOJ 2017 is now open. Please register for the conference as soon as possible. Remember that ISOJ has reached full capacity very early in recent years, weeks before the event. Attendees coming from outside of Austin (we have had participants from dozens of countries) should also reserve accommodations in advance, as hotels near the ISOJ venue on the campus of UT Austin also reach full capacity early on.
