Amber Hinsley is a professor at Texas State University. She is a former journalist, having covered crime in Los Angeles before becoming a newsroom manager. Dr. Hinsley also spent 10 years teaching at another university prior to arriving at Texas State.

 

Dr. Hinsley is a teacher-scholar who blends the instruction of journalism and multimedia skills in classes with her research on online media, which currently focuses on misinformation and “fake news” as well as journalists’ use of social media as professional tools. She won the Great Ideas For Teaching (GIFT) award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2020 and received the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award at her previous university. Her research has been published in a variety of academic journals including Journalism, Journalism Studies, Newspaper Research Journal, Journal of Radio and Audio Media, and Computers in Human Behavior.
