Darryl Holliday is a journalist, participatory media advocate and media entrepreneur based in Chicago. He’s the co-founder and News Lab Director at City Bureau, a civic journalism lab based on Chicago’s South Side, where he manages the Documenters Network and impact evaluation efforts across the organization. In 2019, Darryl led a team in the creation of Documenters.org, an award-winning web app that enables people to investigate public meetings, get trained and paid to monitor their local government and make meaningful connections with civic collaborators in their area. In 2011, Darryl co-founded Illustrated Press, a media production collective covering urban issues with comics, sequential art and traditional reporting. He’s been cultivating and supporting innovative approaches to local media coverage, newsroom equity and civic engagement ever since—formerly as a beat reporter for DNAinfo Chicago and the Chicago Sun-Times, and a producer at the Invisible Institute.
