Gina M. Masullo (Ph.D., S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University) is an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Media and Associate Director of the Center for Media Engagement, both in Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. She entered academia after a 20-year career as a newspaper reporter and editor in Upstate New York with most of her career at The Post-Standard in Syracuse, NY. She is the author of two books, Online Incivility and Public Debate: Nasty Talk and The New Town Hall: Why We Engage Personally with Politicians, as well as co-editor of Scandal in a Digital Age. Also, as a Knight Faculty Fellow, she is part of a research team studying how to bridge divides between disparate groups in society, including the media and the public.
