ISOJ registration is closed but livestreaming in English and Spanish will be available


The 16th International Symposium on Online Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, April 17-18, is sold out, but this unique gathering of professional and academics will be livestreamed on the ISOJ website. There will be two live video streams available, the original in English and a second with simultaneous translation to Spanish. Registration is closed as of Monday, April 6.16407312030_d172207497_o

ISOJ will be held in the auditorium of the Blanton Museum of Art, on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. People from more than 30 countries will be in Austin for two full days of academic and professional discussions about many issues affecting online journalism. Four keynote speakers will punctuate the days’ proceedings.

Bonita Stewart, vice president Americas for partner business solutions at Google, will help launch the first day of ISOJ as the keynote speaker starting at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, April 17.

The chair of Stewart’s keynote session will be Owen R. Youngman, the Knight Chair and professor of digital media strategy at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Veteran journalist Susan Glasser, editor of Politico, will give a keynote address on “Editing while disrupting: A report from Washington,” on Friday afternoon. Evan Smith, editor-in-chief and CEO of the Texas Tribune, will be chair Glassers session.

On Saturday, April 18, Isaac Lee, president of news and digital for Univision Communications Inc. and CEO of Fusion, will give the keynote address starting at 9 a.m. His topic will be “Engaging new audiences: Hispanics and millenials.”

Introducing Lee and chairing the discussion will be Jay Rosen, associate professor at New York University and the brains behind the blog PressThink.org. Rosen was a keynote speaker at the 2014 edition of ISOJ.

Giving the final keynote address, starting at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, is Robert Picard, who has chosen the topic, “The changing business logic of media: Why contemporary trends require rethinking company strategies.” Chairing the keynote session will beGeorge Sylvie, an associate professor at the School of Journalism, Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin.
