ISOJ tickets sold out, but live video will be available in English and Spanish; attendees coming from 40 countries
Registration for the 17th annual International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ) has reached capacity and is now closed. However, live streaming of the event will be available at online.journalism.utexas.edu, including a special channel with simultaneous translation to Spanish.
Additionally, social media users can keep up with conference activities via the hashtag #ISOJ on Twitter. Updates also will be available via Facebook and Snapchat.
Attendees from 40 countries and five continents will convene in Austin from April 15 to 16 for the global conference organized by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. The conference takes place at the Blanton Museum of Art on the University of Texas at Austin campus.
This year’s keynote speakers include Kinsey Wilson, New York Times editor for innovation and strategy and executive vice president of product and technology; Kara Swisher, co-founder and executive editor of technology news site Re/code; and Yoani Sánchez, journalist and founder of Cuban news site 14ymedio.
Additionally, for the first time, a keynote panel of leaders from five U.S. nonprofit journalism organizations will discuss business models and challenges in the industry.
The panel includes Joaquin Alvarado, CEO of Reveal/Center for Investigative Reporting; Peter Bale, CEO of Center for Public Integrity; Bill Keller, editor-in-chief of The Marshall Project; Evan Smith, editor-in-chief, CEO and co-founder of The Texas Tribune; and Richard Tofel, president of ProPublica.
ISOJ also features panels on news bots, virtual reality, activism and journalism, women entrepreneurs, distributed content, advertising and ad blocking, the state of online journalism around the world and academic research on the industry. Additionally, Google News Lab will present a workshop on how journalists can use Google Tools to their advantage.
