Dr. Monica Chadha (University of Texas at Austin, 2014) is an assistant professor in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. Her research focuses on professional identity construction and news production in digitally native local news sites. In particular, she studies local and hyperlocal news sites as well as journalists’ negotiation of entrepreneurial roles in news media startups. Her work has been published in journals such as Mass Communication & Society, Communication Methods & Measures, Journalism Practice, Digital Journalism, International Journal of Communication and Journal of Information, Technology and Politics. Before entering academia, she served as a news correspondent for eight years in the BBC World Service.
