John Wihbey
Assistant Professor, Journalism and Media Innovation, Northeastern University
John Wihbey is an assistant professor of journalism and media innovation at Northeastern University, where he heads the graduate programs in the School of Journalism. He is author of the 2019 book The Social Fact: News and Knowledge in a Networked World (MIT Press). He has worked in newspapers, radio, and digital media. His writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, New York Times, Washington Post, Poytner, and Nieman Journalism Lab, as well as #ISOJ, New Media & Society, and Journalism Practice. He is a faculty affiliate with the NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks and faculty co-director of the new Data Impact Co-Lab at Northeastern. He helped found and oversee the Journalist’s Resource project at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center, where he continues to serve as a research associate. He has served on the advisory board of Project Information Literacy and has been an advisor to media and technology companies.
