Dustin Harp (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin at Madison) is the current director of Women’s & Gender Studies Program and an associate professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Texas at Arlington. A former journalist, Dustin teaches journalism and communication courses. Her research explores the intersections of women, journalism, and mass communication and media, with a specific interest in women and politics and the influence of social media on public discourse. Along with numerous scholarly journal articles, her books include: Gender in the 2016 US Presidential Election: Trump, Clinton and Media Discourse (Routledge), Feminist Approaches to Media Theory and Research (Palgrave McMillan, 2018), and Desperately Seeking Women Readers (2007), which argues that news media has historically constructed men as citizens and women as consumers.
