A former journalist, Dr. Sue Robinson joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in January 2007 and now holds the Helen Firstbrook Franklin Professor of Journalism endowed research chair. As a scholar and teacher, she explores all things journalism and practices “applied research” within newsrooms and with newsroom trainers. She has three books out, including a 2023 one titled, “How Journalists Engage: A theory of trust building, identities, and care.” She works with (or has worked with) Hearken, Trusting News, Solutions Journalism Network, Agora Journalism Center, Journalism That Matters, the Membership Puzzle Project, Knight Foundation. Her current book project with Josh Darr of Syracuse is measuring whether (and how) engagement journalism is transforming the industry.
