Co-founder and Strategic Director, Alharaca (El Salvador/Germany)

Laura AguirreLaura Aguirre is the co-founder and strategic director of Alharaca, a feminist digital media outlet from El Salvador. A sociologist and journalist based in Berlin, she works at the intersection of feminist perspectives, media innovation, sustainability and transnational journalism. In her current role, she leads Alharaca’s long-term strategy, focusing on organizational growth, narrative experimentation and cross-regional impact.

In 2026, Laura and Alharaca’s co-founders launched Alharaca StoryLab in Europe, a collective initiative to establish the organization’s innovation hub for experimental journalism and live narrative formats. This new phase builds on her tenure as executive director of Alharaca from 2018 to 2023, during which she helped shape the outlet’s sustainability model, collaborative culture and feminist editorial vision. Her professional experience also includes serving as development director at SembraMedia from 2024 to 2025, where she worked closely with independent media organizations and women media entrepreneurs across Latin America.

Laura holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin. Her journalism and analysis have been published by El Faro, Univision, openDemocracy and El País, among others. Her work on gender and reproductive rights has received the COLPIN and IDEA journalism awards.
