WAN-IFRA’s North American Digital Media Awards to be held in partnership with ISOJ
Update: The deadline for submissions for the North American Digital Media Awards has been extended to March 15, 2020 @ 11:59 PM ET.
The North American Digital Media Awards ceremony has been cancelled due to the cancellation of the in-person component of ISOJ 2020.
Prior to the official start of the 21st International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ), editors and other media executives will convene in Austin, Texas, for the fourth edition of the 2020 North American Digital Media Awards from the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
These awards “honor news publishers that have delivered unique and original digital media projects in the past year.” Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Blanton Museum of Art Auditorium on April 23, 2020 from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the activities of this year’s International Symposium on Online Journalism, undoubtedly, one of the best digital media events in the industry,” said Vincent Peyrègne, CEO of WAN-IFRA. “We’re strong believers that strategic collaborations like this one provide unique value to digital-savvy journalists and news executives seeking to refine their skill set and strengthen their professional network.”
WAN-IFRA invites entries for the awards from media companies in the U.S. and Canada. To be eligible, projects need to have been published between May 1, 2019 and Feb. 25, 2020. Submissions are now due by March 15, 2020 @ 11:59 PM ET.
Winners of the North American Digital Media Awards go on to the 2020 World Digital Media Awards, competing against the projects from Africa, Asia, South Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. World winners will be announced during the organization’s World News Media Congress, in Zaragoza, Spain, on 17-19 June.
“We are delighted to be strategic partners of WAN-IFRA’s North American Digital Media Awards and it is an honor to have the ceremony hosted at the University of Texas at Austin campus on the eve of traditional ISOJ conference,” said professor Rosental Alves, founder and director of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. “The two events are complementary and will benefit from this synergy.”
WAN-IFRA aims to protect the rights of journalists and publishers around the world to operate independent media. It provides members with expertise and services to innovate and prosper in a digital world and perform their crucial role in society.
ISOJ is a unique conference centered around the impact of the digital revolution on journalism. Bridging the gap between academia and the news industry, it is a program of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin.
