Amy Schmitz Weiss is an associate professor in the School of Journalism & Media Studies at San Diego State University. She is the research chair for the International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ) and co-editor of the #ISOJ journal.
She is the recipient of the 2017-2018 San Diego State University Grant Program. Her project entails examining the intersection of journalism, social media and location-based services in today’s digital/mobile environment. She has also been the recipient of the Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education by the Online News Association (2014-2015) and the AEJMC Bridge Grant with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation (2011-2012).
She teaches journalism courses in basic writing and editing, multimedia, web design, data journalism, mobile journalism, sensor journalism, media entrepreneurship and spatial journalism. Amy has presented her research at several national and international conferences. Her research interests include online journalism, media sociology, news production, multimedia journalism and international communication.
